Greater Kansas City Chapter Awards

The Kansas City Chapter presents the following awards throughout the year to recognizes various individuals who have made an impact in the field of security.

Thomas R. Meyers Award
The Greater Kansas City Chapter of ASIS established the Thomas R. Meyers Award to recognize an outstanding Law Enforcement Officer who exemplifies professionalism and is a role model in our community. This recipient will be one who has fostered relations between law enforcement, the community and private security professionals.

Clarence M. Kelley Award 
In 1980, during the time of Mr. Kelley's membership in the local ASIS chapter, the Clarence M. Kelley Award was created, with his permission to recognize an active law enforcement administrator in metropolitan Kansas City who is an excellent administrator, proactive in their approach and dedicated to improving the criminal justice system. One who continues Mr. Kelley's legacy by providing exemplary performance, which is influential in raising the standards of leadership. 

Security Professional of the Year
This award recognizes a member of the security profession, with a minimum of ten years experience, who continually exhibits leadership ability within the security profession. The recipient practices mentoring, fosters the education of those new to the security profession and is a participant in the security community as demonstrated through active membership in professional security organizations.

Security Officer of the Year
To recognize a Kansas City area Security Officer who excelled in the discharge of their duties by taking exemplary on-duty action to protect life and/or property.

Eligibility:
Any individual working in a paid position, directly and primarily responsible for providing security-related services to persons and/or property. Law enforcement officers and Security Administrators are not eligible for this award.

Criteria:
1) Show outstanding performance and/or achievement while on duty.
2) Demonstrate professionalism while on duty.
3) Provides an elevated level of customer service while on duty.

ASIS Foundation Awards

Chapter Community Service Award (Opens 15 Mar, Deadline 15 Jun)  Submit application

Established in 2008, the Chapter Community Service Award recognizes an outstanding community-based activity or event of one Chapter that provides a monetary value contribution to a charitable institution in support of a specific public service cause. The award aims to encourage chapters to invest time and effort in their communities, inspire good practices, and intensify volunteerism through member participation in a manner that complements and supports the goals and purposes of ASIS International.

Eligibility: Any ASIS chapter may apply. One award and/or honorable mention may be given per award group.

Criteria: Submissions are evaluated on chapter participation, benefit to community, and overall quality of project or endeavor.

Award: Winners will be honored at the annual Global Security Exchange. The beneficiary organization of the winning chapter receives $1000 (honorable mentions receive $500).

E.J. Criscuoli, Jr., CPP, Volunteer Leadership Award (Open 15 Mar, Deadline 15 Jun)   Submit Application

The E.J. Criscuoli, Jr., CPP, Volunteer Leadership Award recognizes an ASIS International member who has exhibited selfless devotion at the volunteer level, emphasizing significant contributions at the chapter and regional levels over an extended period of time.

Eligibility:

1. No member of the ASIS Board of Directors (past or present) may be nominated for this award.
2. No member of the Awards Committee may be nominated for this award during the time in which they are serving on the committee.
3. No Awards Committee retiree may be nominated for this award for a period of three full years following their last service on the committee.

Criteria: Nominees will be judged on the number of years of volunteer service at the chapter and regional level, as well as a written narrative detailing their service.

Award: In addition to a monetary award to his/her chapter and the ASIS Foundation, the winner receives travel expenses, lodging, and a full four-day registration for that year’s Global Security Exchange.

Chapter Communications Award (Open 15 Mar, Deadline 15 Jun)   Submit Application

Launched in 1983 to support the establishment and continual improvement of chapter newsletters, this annual award recognizes outstanding print and electronic chapter newsletters.

Eligibility: Any ASIS chapter may apply.

Criteria: Submissions are evaluated on consistency, variety and quality of content, as well as overall presentation.

Awards: Winning chapters receive a plaque and a $300 cash award. Honorable mentions receive a plaque and a $150 cash award.

I.B. Hale Chapter of the Year Award (Opens 15 Mar, Deadline 15 Jun)   Submit Application

Established in 1972 to honor former ASIS President and Chairman of the Board I.B. Hale, this award recognizes the most outstanding chapters in each award group. 

Eligibility: Any ASIS Chapter may apply. Chapters are evaluated against chapters of similar membership size.

Criteria: Submissions are evaluated on a range of criteria including: membership growth, quality of chapter programs, support of ASIS certifications and the foundation, chapter financial status, promotion of the profession in the local community, and prompt submission of chapter reports to headquarters.

Awards: The winning chapters receive a plaque and a $600 cash award at the annual Global Security Exchange (GSX). Honorable mentions receive a plaque and $300 cash award.

Women in Security Global Council Karen Marquez Honors Award (Opens 13 Apr, Deadline 15 Jun)  Submit Application

This award honors a female security professional who has consistently worked for the betterment of the security industry over an extended period. Nominees should be able to demonstrate how they have supported, promoted and inspired other women in our industry to be exceptional leaders. Nominees must be an ASIS member in good standing but do not have to be a WIS Council member. Nominees must possess a minimum of 15 years’ experience in the security industry or 10 years’ experience or equivalent with an ASIS Certification. 

Young Professionals Council GSX Experience Award (Opens 12 Mar, Deadline 15 Jun)   Submit Application

This award recognizes three ASIS young professional volunteer members who have exhibited strong leadership in the security industry. Applicants need to be below the age of 40. The criteria for this award include age, financial need, merit, council volunteer leadership participation and prior attendance at GSX. 

Don Walker CSO Center Security Executive Award (Opens 13 Mar, Deadline 15 Jun)   Submit Application

The Don Walker CSO Center Security Executive Award recognizes a senior level executive who demonstrates commitment to security management education, certification, and standards and guidelines for the executive management level of the security discipline in a given enterprise. 

Chapter Website of the Year Award (Opens 21 Nov, Deadline 15 Jan)  Submit Application

This annual award recognizes the outstanding accomplishment of chapter websites that have interest and value to members of ASIS. Chapters are evaluated against chapters of similar membership size; websites are scored from February - June. Outstanding New/Revitalized Chapter Award (Opens 5 Apr, Deadline 15 Jun)

This award recognizes new and revitalized chapters that have exhibited outstanding motivation, excellence, and service.

Roy N. Bordes CPP Community Sterling Committee Member Award of Excellence (Opens 5 Apr, Deadline 15 June)

The Roy N. Bordes, CPP Community Steering Committee Member Award of Excellence is awarded each year to a deserving member of ASIS International. This award recognizes an ASIS member who has exhibited selfless devotion as a volunteer, emphasizing significant contributions at the Subject Area Community Steering Committee level over an extended period of time. 

Nominations may be submitted by a Community Vice President, Community Chairperson or Vice Chairperson.

PCB Organizational Award of Merit (Opens 4 Apr, Deadline 15 Jun)

Purpose is to recognize:  

• an organization that has shown outstanding leadership and commitment to professional development of their own security professionals through certification.
• organizations that make significant contributions toward the advancement of ASIS certification programs.

PCB Regional Certification Award (Opens 4 Apr, Deadline 15 Jun)

Submit Application

Purpose: To recognize certified security professionals who have made significant contributions to the enhancement and advancement of the CPP, PCI, PSP, or APP designation.

Required: Certificant (or certification holder) made significant contributions to the advancement of one or more ASIS designations on the local, regional or national level. 

An individual may receive a maximum of three awards. They may be nominated no more than twice in a three-year period, with a two-year wait period if they are to be nominated for a third award.
