Program: 

Bring a military veteran as your guest, for free. This event will be capped at 48 attendees, but a waitlist will be set up in case a seat opens up. 

Dan West will discuss the purpose of the VFW, to speed rehabilitation of the nation's disabled and needy veterans, assist veterans' widows and orphans and the dependents of needy or disabled veterans, and promote Americanism by means of education in patriotism and by constructive service to local communities. Specifically, the VFW's Transition and Employment services which are committed to providing all service members and veterans with the resources and assistance they need to find a job befitting of their skills and military service.

Mr. West will highlight the benefits veterans bring to businesses and strategies to find and hire them.

Speaker:

Dan West served in the United States Marine Corps from 1983 to 1994 as an Infantryman. His overseas service was in Beirut, Lebanon during the TWA Hijacking; Asia, Europe, Central and South America and in the Middle East during Operation Desert Shield/Storm where he served with 1st Battalion, 1st Marines as a member of “Task Force Papa Bear” in the Al Buquan and Al Wafra oil fields.

During his military service from 1983-1994, he served as a Marine Corps Drill Instructor, Water Survival and Close Quarters Combat Instructor. He also served as a military advisor in Thailand to foreign military units engaged against forces of the Khmer Rouge.

After exiting from the Marines, he founded Security Services of Texas, Inc. in 1995 focusing on providing private security and investigations for companies in Central Texas. Upon selling SST, Inc. 2003 he served as the Director of Security for the Seton Hospital network providing all security and investigative leadership management on all security related infrastructure and procedures at 8 acute care hospitals including the regional trauma center and 22 clinics and support buildings with a staff of 83 security professional and 43 police officers.

Currently employed as the Adjutant General for the Veterans of Foreign Wars he oversees the daily operations of the National VFW Headquarters in both Kansas City and Washington D.C. assuring the 5,800 VFW locations nationwide receive the infrastructure and support they need to be successful in their respective communities.

He is the author of two books, an inventor and U.S. Patent holder and recipient of the Pioneer Spirit Award from the City of San Marcos and the prestigious J.T. Rutherford Award from the Texas Veterans of Foreign Wars.
